On Friday 19 May, Stellenbosch Waldorf School was the beneficiary of the Peninsula Invitational Golf Day, at Devonvale Golf Club. A parent Chris Godenir, the General Manager of the Peninsula All Suite Hotel considered an opportunity whilst in an annual finance meeting at school, to raise funds for the SWS bursary fund. Acting on that idea, the first fundraising Golf Day came into being, and a huge success it was. With many businesses taking the opportunity to support a worthy cause and enjoy a day of golf, where 20 four balls came together and played for the critical need of providing a good education for children, who may not necessarily be able to join a Waldorf School. One team comprised of three Waldorf school students and a teacher who grasped the opportunity to play for their school with both hands.
After a great day of golf everyone gathered in the clubhouse and participated in an auction to offer even more support. Thank you to everyone involved who made this very exciting hope a reality and particularly to Chris and his team for the dedicated effort to see this first event equalling a hole in one! Here’s hoping that with the experience of this first tee off, the Golf Day will become an annual event to look forward to.
